The Emmis Communication family alongside New York Cares, held their annual “Spread the Warmth” coat drive this past Sunday in the mall at Bay Plaza in the Bronx. Because of the generous hearts of many, kids and adults who are in need won’t have to worry about how they will keep warm this winter.
The event was sponsored by Geico and Metro Plus and DJ’s from Hot97 and WBLS such as DJ Red Alert, DJ Enuff, DJ Katrina B, DJ Mitch, DJ Buggy, and DJ Juanito provided the tunes. Three large donation boxes were put out and were filled with bags of coats and winter gear.
Tamar, who directed the event said all together they were able to collect about 18 bags that had about 10 coats each! Approximately 180 people won’t freeze this winter because of the “Spread the Warmth” coat drive, along with many other fundraisers aimed to help people in need.
Hot97’s DJ Drewski who recently took on a hosting venture with VEVO, and the new face of Love and Hip Hop NY teamed up with Brooklyn’s Club Lust/Love and gave away a truck full of turkeys. @SoDrewski alongside his friend’s Maino and DJ Spin King spent the day at Sunset Park, BK making sure people in the community could have a Thanksgiving. One of the leaders of “The MVMT” took to Instagram and said “nothing feels better than giving back. I’ve been blessed enough to never know what it feels like to be hungry. Whether we had to hustle or grind to get food on the plate, we always ate good on Thanksgiving.”
