One of the many programs that low income people depend on just took a major L as Donald Trump presented his budget plan for 2018.

Although Trump plans on keeping Pell Grant, which is a organization that gives money to qualifying college students in need, the president will reduce funding by $3.9 billion. The Pell Grant program is the largest federal grant program, according to the National Center for Education Statistics and many students depend on it to afford college.

Trump believes that cutting funds will “safeguard” survival for the next decade.

Another program taking a major loss is The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG) program. According to Trump’s plan, he wants to completely eliminate the program.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, “FSEOGs supply $100-$4,000 a year for students with financial need.

Reported on USA Today, the Trump administration feels that since they are keeping Pell Grant, this program is no needed. Terminating this funding will “save 732 million.”

Meanwhile, millions of college students will have to suffer.
