45 year old Ava Duvernay, an African American director, producer, and screenwriter has made HERstory once again. Most known for directing “Selma,” “A Wrinkle in Time,” and “13th,” she’s paving the way for future female black filmmakers.
Ava first made history when she became the first woman of color to direct a film for a best picture Oscar for “Selma” back in 2016. For her latest film “A Wrinkle in Time,” she became the first female director to cross the $100 million mark domestically. She is also the first black woman to get a budget more than $100 million for “A Wrinkle in Time.” It cost about $103 million to make and grossed $132.4 million.
Ava will also make more history as she is set to direct a DC superhero movie. Reported on CBS, she is the first black woman to direct “The New Gods” a DC film.
