Joy Reid + Madeline Swegle Made Black Girl Magic American History!

Joy-Ann Reid is making a major POWER move + making history in the process. The MSNBC anchor/host of AM Joy is cable’s first Black woman prime time news anchor! Prior to her being appointed, programs were hosted by five white males and one white woman.

In more amazing black girl magic news, the navy welcomed Lt. j.g. Madeline Swegle as their first Black female fighter pilot. This history-making moment comes 110 years after naval aviation was born.

In 1974, Rosemary Mariner, a white woman, became the first woman in the Navy to fly a tactical jet. The first African American woman to earn her wings of gold and become a Navy flight instructor was Brenda Robinson in the 1980’s.
