Issa graced the June cover of Vanity Fair. In the spread, Issa touched on one of her biggest regrets.
She regrets rubbing Lauren London the wrong way. Issa explained that she mentioned in interviews and her memoir, Lauren would be a good fit to play the lead in a possible cable adaptation of Awkward Black Girl. Issa said, “One of my biggest regrets, naming her. She took offense to that.”
It wasn’t until Diddy’s 50th birthday bash that the two would be able to have a conversation. Issa explained that Nipsey was the one who set everything up. Issa said,
“He [Nipsey] was like, ‘You should just talk to her. Let me set it up.”
She went to say how it turned into “an amazing two-hour conversation.” Issa said,
“We had so much in common. She was like, ‘People don’t understand, I’m an awkward Black girl.’ In the same way that I was upset about the limited portrayal of Black women, she was like, ‘People do the same thing to me.’ I completely get that.”
